As a trainer, I hear a lot of “I can’t work out on my own,” or “If you aren’t there to hold me accountable, I’ll never get to the gym.” I totally get that. Motivating yourself to exercise is hard…really hard…especially if you aren’t someone who likes it all that much.
Even I have days when I just don’t feel like working out – too tired, busy day, no energy. Whatever the reason, I’ve taught myself a trick that helps me and I’m going to teach it to you…PUT ON YOUR LEGGINGS! That’s it, folks! That is the answer to your problems!
Seriously though, I have found that getting my workout clothes on in the morning is a crucial step in self-motivating to actually exercise. I could putter about in my pjs all morning OR I can put on my sneakers and I’m halfway there. And…for those of you who exercise after work (bravo to you), just lay out your clothes so they are ready and waiting (and staring at you!).
Another tip I tell my clients is to schedule your workouts…make yourself a priority!!! Put it on your calendar just like a nail appointment or an oil change. Make it a part of your day. Schedule other things around your workout if you can.
One of my favorite quotes is: “I really regretted that workout. Said No One. Ever.” So don’t think about working out today…just put on your leggings and get it done!
